About Dr. Jonathan Avery
Jonathan Avery, M.D. is the Vice Chair for Addiction Psychiatry, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, and the Stephen P. Tobin and Dr. Arnold M. Cooper Professor in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He also serves as Program Director for the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship and as Medical Director for the NBA’s Anti-Drug Program.
Dr. Avery’s academic work centers on developing interventions to improve clinicians’ attitudes toward patients with substance use disorders and on training physicians to care for individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions.
He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, edited 10 academic books, and is a frequent national speaker on addiction, stigma, and mental health. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Time Magazine, and on Next Question with Katie Couric, among other national outlets.
